Let me answer your Questions

WHAT CAN I EXPECT WHEN I CHOOSE YOU? I will be your step by step guide from initial inquiry to delivery of images to make this adventure easy and enjoyable. This includes client prep guides, checklists and lots of other information. My passion is capturing each senior’s personality and telling their story. I keep up with senior photography trends and what is on the cutting edge in addition to providing classic images. I love to be creative and try new things. Images will be reflective of the senior, colorful images with true colors, tones and textures and not over-edited. 

WHY A PRE-SESSION CONSULTATION? There are so many reasons but I have found it invaluable to break the ice, get to know each other, answer any questions, choose locations and brainstorm on ideas that we may not have thought of on our own. When you come to your session, many of your questions will be answered, you know exactly what to expect and it gives us a jumpstart on creating unique images. It’s definitely worth the time. 

WHAT HAPPENS AT SESSION? We will implement all the plans we made at the consultation. My goal is to make sessions a fun, special and relaxed experience. Since this is YOUR session, feel free to share any suggestions or ideas. No ideas? Never fear…I always have some. 

I DON’T KNOW HOW TO POSE. No worries! I don’t expect you to know what to do. I will demonstrate and coach you through all poses to give you a natural look or if you want…we will bring out your dramatic or playful side. I want you to look fantastic. 

CAN I DO NATURAL MAKEUP? Absolutely! We want your images to look like YOU. But if you want to look a little more glam…we do that too. I have a fantastic hair and makeup artist that can do both. This is your time to explore and show all sides of your personality. I do recommend some makeup as the camera will tend to wash you out a bit. 

WHAT ABOUT SENIORS WHO DON’T ENJOY PICTURES? Some seniors are reluctant to get their picture taken. I’ve worked with many and try to meet them where they are to make it as enjoyable as possible. One comment I often hear at the end of a session is that it was a lot more fun and easy than they thought it would be. Your session is customized to YOU. If you want it low key…we do low key. 

WHAT MONTH SHOULD I SCHEDULE A SESSION? It depends on your schedule and what type of background you prefer. I would be glad to discuss this with you. If you have extracurricular activities in the fall (sports, music, etc.), consider a summer session as I typically schedule only 3 weekend sessions per month so they fill quickly. I offer sessions June-October and March-April. 

FULL OR MINI SESSION? Almost all my clients schedule a full session as it gives you the most flexibility and variety. Some also schedule a second mini session to highlight sports/interests or if they want two different seasons of pictures. Spring Cap & Gown and Friend sessions also fit well in a mini session. Only need/want a few pictures? A mini session may be the best option.

I’M GOING TO WANT A SECOND SESSION. WHEN SHOULD I BOOK IT? As soon as you know…let me know. My schedule is limited. I want to make sure I can reserve a spot for you.

WHERE DO YOU TAKE PICTURES?  I have a LOT of options within a 30 mile radius of Hesston. I’m always looking for new places…natural areas, gritty, urban areas such as Old Town in Wichita, alleys, junkyards, ponds, sunflower fields, barns, parks, parking garages, coffee shops, airplanes etc. Most pictures are taken outdoors but open to gyms or other indoor areas if you have a request.  We want your images to be unique so I try to use different locations for seniors from the same high school class or at least vary the images so they are different. This means I use MANY different locations and can suggest some for you. I am open to any visions or suggestions. Since most pictures are outdoors, we will reschedule if the weather doesn’t cooperate.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?  I will give you a checklist before your session for the basics. Beyond that…this is your time to shine so feel free to bring any props, personal interests, sports jerseys/equipment, letter jackets etc. to the session. We will discuss outfits, ideas and props beforehand to make sure we capture the images you want.

TIME OF DAY?  Unless we are indoors, I prefer evenings for best light. Full sessions are scheduled 3 hours before sunset. Mini Sessions are 90 minutes before sunset.

HOW FAR WILL YOU TRAVEL? Local travel (30 mile radius) is included in your fee. If you have a location outside of 30 miles of Hesston, I am up for a road trip.  Local includes areas of Wichita, Hutchinson, McPherson, Newton, etc. Additional travel fee outside this area.

WHAT DOES “EDITED” MEAN?  Editing is very natural. I do my best to retouch and take care of small problem areas including skin and hair. I will NOT make you look “plastic” or unnatural. More extensive editing may be done for an additional fee. 

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN YOUR FEE?  My time to scout locations, consult with you on ideas/outfits, plan and execute your actual session, expertise in editing images and providing digital galleries for you to download or order. You receive the images to print or share. Travel outside of 30 miles from Hesston is an extra fee. Prints or other products are not included in the session fee.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY IMAGES?  Depending on the time of year, it will take me approximately 1-2 weeks to edit your images. A sneak peek will be posted on my Facebook and Instagram within the first couple days. 

HOW WILL I RECEIVE MY IMAGES?  A link to directly download images through your online gallery will be sent to you. I recommend you save them on a flashdrive or other media in case your files get accidently deleted on your device. You can also request a flashdrive with your images on it. Your email will include a photographer’s release to print or share your images. In addition, your images will be uploaded directly to two professional labs. Both are high quality, very quick and reasonable. You can use these links to order directly from them without needing to upload your files. 

WILL I RECEIVE A PHOTOGRAPHER’S RELEASE?  Yes. 

CAN I SHARE MY PICTURES THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA OR WITH OTHERS?  Absolutely. If you want to give me credit on social media, I would appreciate it. You can also give your links to others, allowing them to download, share or print for personal use only. If you plan to use the image for commercial purposes, please contact me in advance. I retain the copyright for all images.

HOW DO I PRINT MY IMAGES? I will provide you with a printing release. I will also upload them to an online lab for your convenience. You can also order direct through your download gallery. I know how expensive it can get so I have chosen two options for you that are super reasonable.  Ex. a 4×6 is as low as 36 cents. Can’t get better than that! Or if you prefer, I can meet with you, show you options and order for you. As this is my artwork, I request that you do not add filters, re-edit or alter the photos. If you need changes, please contact me.

DOES IT MATTER WHERE I ORDER PICTURES?  In a word, YES!  Color varies depending on the lab and product you choose. For best quality, I strongly recommend getting them from an online professional lab or a professional print shop. My release excludes printing at big box stores such as Walgreens, WalMart, Cosco, etc. as I cannot guarantee color or quality.

CAN I ORDER PICTURES/PRODUCTS THROUGH YOU?. Of course you can! You may order prints directly through the online gallery link or you can call me. I think you will find my prices to be reasonable. In addition to prints, I can show you alternative products such as canvases, standouts, metal aluminum prints or photo books. If you order through the online gallery, there is no minimum. If you order through me, I require a $50 minimum to allow for shipping costs.

HOW MUCH CAN I EXPECT TO INVEST? The session fee to me is already set. $550 or $350 You will not owe me any extra. Depending on what prints or products you choose, I estimate between $25-$300 more. Good news is you have the images and can time when this occurs. 

DO YOU CREATE PHOTOBOOKS? YES! This can be an add-on to your session. They generally run around $325. Regardless if I create it or you do, I highly encourage you to invest in one. Since you receive so many images, it’s probably the only way you will see all your favorites printed.  

HOW DO I BOOK A SESSION? Click on Booking Calendar  to find a date for a full session OR a mini session. A $200 non-refundable retainer is due at booking to reserve your session. Balance of your session is due on or before the session. Payment plans are also available. I normally start scheduling summer/fall sessions late March/early April and spring sessions in the fall.
